International Orchid Registrar
As International Registration Authority for Orchid Hybrids, the Royal Horticultural Society is currently inviting applications for the full-time post of International Orchid Registrar, to be based at the RHS Garden, Wisley. The Orchid Register has been maintained by the Society since 1961. It is fully computerized and contains over 118,000 entries. More than 3,000 applications for new entries are received each year, registrants paying a fee for each name accepted.
Applicants should preferably have a working knowledge of the nomenclatural codes governing botanical and cultivated plants. Some experience in orchid taxonomy and nomenclature and with the orchid-growing community worldwide would be an advantage. General IT skills are essential. It is expected that the appointment will be made from 1 January 2001 to allow a two-month overlap with the current Registrar.
