Averyanov, Leonid V. (Herbarium, Komarov Botanical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, prof. Popov str., 2, St.-Petersburg, 197376, Russia) has now completed work on the limestone flora of Cao Bang province of north Vietnam and also exploration of endangered calcium-dependent orchid flora in inaccessible rocky limestone areas of north Vietnam. Many projects are in progress or planned for the future: exploration of endangered Vietnamese paphiopedilums (1999-2000), the highland flora of south Vietnam (February 2000-December 2001), and (with Nguyen Tien Hiep) the distribution of Paphiopedilum vietnamense and its current status in the wild (2000-2001).

Bajracharya, Devendra (Department of Botany, Amrit Campus, Tribhuran University, Lainchour, Kathmandu, Nepal) has just finished an inventory of the orchid flora of Gorkha District, Nepal, Himalaya, and is now working on a revision of Eria of the Himalaya region.

Bennett, David E. (Francisco Tudela Varela 229, Miraflores, Lima 18, Peru) plans to accompany a photo and video team to the site of Sobralia altissima (by helicopter) to collect pollinia for distribution to Sobralia hybridizers. He is preparing 200 additional Icones with Eric Christenson for publication this year.

Kurzweil, Hubert (Compton Herbarium, National Botanical Institute, 7735 Claremont, South Africa) is to participate in a SABONET expedition to the Nyika Plateau in Malawi in March-April 2000.

Okuyama, Hideki (1-9-8 Kitano 2-Jo, Sapporo, Hokkaido 004-0862, Japan) has discovered a range extension for Cypripedium shanxiense and intends to study the distribution of Cypripedium in Vietnam.

Scott, Helen S. (26, St. Ann's Hill, London SW18 2EY, UK) recently presented a poster at the 16th World Orchid Conference in Vancouver titled "Orchid conservation: factors affecting the distribution and abundance of Anacamptis pyramidalis and Gymnadenia conopsea on chalk grassland". She is completing her Ph.D. in ecology at the Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology and performing PCR-SSCP/PCR-RFLP analyses on mycorrhizal isolates collected from the field in association with Anacamptis pyramidalis and Gymnadenia conopsea.

Sharma, Jyotsna (1-87 Agriculture Building, University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri 65211, USA) has commenced a project on the mycorrhizae, symbiotic seed germination, and genetic diversity of Platanthera praeclara, a threatened species in the tall grass prairies of North America. Seed germination studies will be conducted in collaboration with Lawrence Zettler.

Zettler, Lawrence (Department of Biology, Illinois College, 1101 West College Avenue, Jacksonville, Illinois 62650, USA) has been appointed a Research Associate at the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens. He plans to isolate the mycorrhizal fungi of orchids of the Fakahachee Strand. Research directed at the symbiotic micropropagation of Platanthera leucophaea is continuing in collaboration with Marlin Bowles and Karel Jacobs. He continues projects related to symbiotic germination of Platanthera praeclara (with Jyotsna Sharma), Florida orchids (with Scott Stewart), and Isotria medeoloides (with Jagila Minso).
