This monograph, first of two parts, presents revisions, at generic and specific levels, of all New World native or naturalized genera of tribe Ingeae ever referred to Pithecellobium. Of New World Ingeae only Inga and Zapoteca are excluded from the monograph. New World species of 16 native genera (including 6 new genera) are fully treated, Enterolobium and Lysiloma are partly treated, and members of 2 other Old World genera (1 new) naturalized in the Americas are included. A full treatment of 4 other genera (Calliandra, Cojoba, Pithecellobium, and Zygia) will appear in part two. A discussion of anatomy and morphology of the Pithecellobium complex is provided, and phylogenetic analyses are provided for most genera.
