Description
Small trees or shrubs; leaves simple; inflorescence axillary, cymose, lax, flower mauve or blue; calyx campanulate, actinomorphic, 5-lobed, lobes equal; corolla tubular-infundibular to hypocrateriform, 5-lobed, 2-lipped; stamens 4, inserted at base of tube, hardly exserted, thecae parallel; ovary 4-locular, style terminal, with stigma shortly 2-lobed; fruit a flattened, rounded schizocarp, dry or slightly fleshy, composed of 2 pyrenes, each with 2 locules. Eight species, Hispaniola, Cuba and the Bahamas.
