Description
Perennial herbs with woody rootstock, densely hairy with simple hairs; leaves palmately lobed; inflorescence thyrsoid, cymes many-flowered; flowers sessile; bracts present; bracteoles present; calyx zygomorphic, often weakly so, 5-lobed, lobes subequal or unequal (3/2), usually spinose; corolla strongly 2-lipped, 4-lobed (1/3), yellow, posterior lip long, hooded, anterior lip directed upwards, corolla-tube exannulate, exserted from calyx; stamens not exserted from corolla, thecae distinct, parallel or divaricate; stigma-lobes subequal; nutlets trigonous, rounded at apex, glabrous or glandular. 2n = 18. Two to seven spp. Semi-deserts, S Siberia, C Asia [Mongolia and NW China].
