Description
Perennial rhizomatous herb, with simple hairs; stem short or almost absent; leaves in basal rosette and often also opposite along the stem, mostly broad; inflorescence short and dense, thyrsoid; bracteoles spinescent; calyx-lobes equal, broad at the base and abruptly narrowed to a spinescent apex; corolla 2-lipped, 4-lobed (1/3), pink to purplish brown, posterior lip long, hooded, denticulate, densely villous inside; stamens not exserted from corolla, thecae confluent; stigma-lobes equal; nutlets rounded at apex, glabrous. One sp., L. rotata (Hook.f.) Kudo, moist alpine areas, from Tibet, Nepal and N India to C and S China. Lamiophlomis is often included in Phlomis.
