Description

Shrubs or woody herbs, with simple and/or branched hairs; leaves toothed, petiolate; inflorescence thyrsoid, lax to dense and capitate, cymes 1-5-flowered; calyx 5-lobed, lobes equal or subequal; corolla strongly 2-lipped, 4-lobed (1/3), yellow to red or purple; posterior lip moderately long, hooded with upcurved margins, entire or emarginate, anterior lip subequally 3-lobed, corolla-tube strongly dilated in distal part; stamens not exserted from corolla, thecae ± confluent; stigma-lobes unequal or subequal; nutlets narrowly obovoid-oblong, winged at apex, glandular or glabrous. 2n = 34.  About six spp., mostly in thickets and on hill slopes, from Tibet, Nepal and N India to S China and Vietnam.
