This sculpture is inspired by an elephant skull. Moore was struck by the caverns of space, the strength of the bone in contrast to its fine edges and the tension created by the pointed forms.

Never having seen an elephant's skull, I felt it looked like a giant keyhole, or a figure 8 - a good luck number in Chinese apparently, tho I doubt HM knew this. I loved the dark brown colour and the smooth surface, to use an overworked word it is very 'tactile'.
