This work is one of three upright motives (nos 7, 1 and 2) that are often shown together, notably at the Kröller Müller museum in Holland.
The figures are all different. The sentry-like forms are confident and solid; their truncated forms have nooks and crannies, deep grooves and intriguing orifices. The motives seem to be life-size - though in reality they are twice as big - and appear ambiguously figurative.
