Woodland Wonders - Bank Holiday Weekend
3-5 May 2008
Take a walk through the quiet Arboretum at the Royal Botanic Gardens,
Kew over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend and
you will discover the Woodland Wonders festival. This
annual event, set among the bluebells in the heart of Kew's conservation
area, celebrates woodland crafts, traditions and folklore.
Key Features
• Learn traditional skills like pole-lathe turning,
hedge laying and yurt construction.
• Demonstrations in archery with
long bows, and spinning.
• The chance to buy crafts including
chairs, wood-turned bowls, rugs, walking sticks and ceramics.
• Pick
up woodland survival techniques, and other skills such as dendochronology
- the dating of past events (climatic changes) through the study of tree
ring growth.
• See beautiful birds of prey in action and
discover more about the intriguing world of bee-keeping.
• Entertainment
will take the form of music, Morris and May Pole dancing in-front of Queen
Charlotte's Cottage, which will be opened to the public especially for this
event. Food and refreshments will be available.
