Bob McMeekin …Railway Reclaimed

Bob McMeekin

“Whilst habitat loss is the greatest threat to native bio-diversity, the second biggest threat is invasion by alien or exotic species! Disused railways are quickly reclaimed by nature but unless managed as wildlife corridors they become the home of non-native invasive species which displace our native ones.

The challenge of this garden has been in trying to recreate how nature reclaims a site. This has involved incorporating native, non-native and invasive species.

I have designed gardens before but this is my first on public display. This is a valuable experience as I am hoping to go into this field after Kew."
