What do you know about badgers?

BADGER FACTFILE:

• Badgers (Meles meles) are relatives of the Otter and the Weasel.

• Males can grow to 1 metre long and can weigh over 10 kg.

• They have excellent hearing and a keen sense of smell, but their sight is quite poor.

• They can live for around 15 years or more but usually only survive in the wild to the age of 7

• They are territorial.

• They don’t hibernate.

• Cubs are born around February and live underground for 8 weeks before emerging from the sett.

Male = Boar
Female = Sow
Young = Cubs
Nickname = Brock!


Their food includes:
Worms
Insects – anything from caterpillars to beetles!
Blackberries
Elderberries
Acorns and Fungi
