This variety of one of John Day’s favourite species bears
the name of his sister, Emma Wolstenholme, who was also an orchid
enthusiast. After the death of his wife, he lived with her and her
husband at High Cross in Tottenham. Mrs Wolstenholme gave John Day’s
scrapbooks to the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew shortly before her
death.
