John Day acquired a batch of over 100 Oncidium sarcodes
when he visited Brazil in 1884. He commented that ‘I did not
see it growing in the forest myself but bought it from a dealer
to whom the plants were brought by the labourers who felled the
trees to clear ground for coffee plantations’.
