‘Fox-tail’ orchids were amongst the most highly prized
of all tropical species in Victorian times, fetching high prices
at auction. Nowadays, they have fallen from popularity. Charles
Parish discovered Aerides crassifolia, one of many choice
species he introduced from the Moulmein region of south-eastern
Burma. John Day was the first British orchid grower to succeed in
bringing it into flower in 1872.
