This orchid commemorates Joseph Hooker, who collected in the Himalayas
in the late 1840s. He followed in the footsteps of his father, William,
as the director of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. The orchid’s
green flowers were prized by orchid enthusiasts but the plant has
proved difficult to cultivate as its flower buds are
very sensitive to changes in temperature.
