One of the most highly prized of the Andean Masdevallias, this
species was another discovery of Frederick Lehmann, a gold prospector
and orchid hunter, who was also the German Consul to Colombia and
Ecuador. Several horticultural nurseries imported this orchid in
large quantities in the early 1880s.
