Colombian Andes |
Frederick Lehmann, who discovered this species, was the German
Consul in Colombia, where he prospected for gold as well as hunting
for orchids. Day described how Lehmann had ‘braved so many
dangers’ in his life. He perished crossing a river in the
Andes, killed, it was rumoured, for the gold he was carrying.
