Only two paintings of this fine orchid survive, one by Charles
Parish who discovered it in Tenasserim in Burma, and the other by
John Day who purchased one of the plants Parish sent to Messrs Hugh
Low & Co of Upper Clapton. Both paintings are at Kew in the
archives. This species has not been seen in cultivation for over
100 years. It remains one of the most desirable of all and has been
sought by many collectors since Parish’s time, but has not
been rediscovered in its native territory. It may already be extinct.
