Access Guide

Kew Gardens is a naturally beautiful and relaxing place to spend a day and it is very accessible.

Parking

Three dedicated parking bays are available for disabled drivers near the Main Gate. There are also 11 spaces in Kew's car park next to Brentford Gate. The car park is free of charge for disabled drivers. Parking on Kew Road (A307) provides easy access to Victoria Gate (restricted before 10am).

Access

The footpaths throughout the gardens and the majority of buildings in the Gardens are suitable for wheelchairs. The entire site is generally flat, with only a few exceptions.

Please note there is no wheelchair access to the following area:

· Marine Display in the Palm House basement  

· Galleries in the Palm and Temperate Houses.

(However the ground floor of the Palm House and Temperate House is wheelchair accessible.)

Wheelchairs

Wheelchairs can be borrowed free of charge from all gates on entry, and are available on a first-come first-served basis. There is no need to book please ask staff at the gates for assistance if required. Unfortunately attendants to push wheelchairs around the gardens are not available.

Owners' electric wheelchairs of the type permitted by the Disabled Persons Act 1970 are allowed into the gardens for use on the footpaths.

Electric Mobility Scooters

Electric mobility scooters are available for use free of charge at Brentford Gate, Victoria Gate or Main Gate. Pre-booking is essential, to book call Kew's Constabulary on 020 8332 5121 (Office hrs only).

Visitors will need to show some form of ID (with photograph, or with home address, e.g. recent Gas bill) when collecting the scooter.

Large-print map

A large-print map, produced with the advice of the RNIB, is available at the gates and at the Victoria Gate visitor centre (Friends desk). Please ask for your copy.

Toilets

There are a number of disabled toilets within easy reach of all the main attractions and gates; these are marked on the visitor handout provided on arrival.

Discovery Bus

The Discovery mobility bus service enables groups of people with special needs to enjoy the magic of the Gardens. Please note the Discovery bus must be booked in advance by calling 020 8332 5643.
