RainforestsAvailable weekdays only, 50 minute tours at 10:40, 11:40 and 13:10. Maximum group size 20 pupils, £40 per tour Explore the sights, sounds and smells of the rainforest through an interactive tour packed with hands on activity. This is designed to introduce young children to the wonder and variety of rainforests, through the use of props, stories and handling artefacts children will find out about the everyday things that come from rainforest plants, from chocolate to rubber gloves, and will introduce simple concepts about plants. In this stimulating and exciting tour of the Gardens we will take you to some of the wilder parts of Kew where we will find out what plants and animals need to live. Children will be introduced to basic concepts about plants, animals and lifecycles. This activity may include minibeast hunting, exploring different types of plants and simple food chains. Maximum group size 20 pupils, £40 per tour This journey will take you through the deserts and rainforests of the world as we explore different habitats and the plants that grow in them, through the use of props and stories. Science, Geography, Citizenship Music of the RainforestAvailable weekdays only, 50 minute tours at 10:40, 11:40 and 13:10. Maximum group size 20 pupils, £40 per tour Using flutes, shakers, drums and other instruments we will explore the sounds of the rainforest and find plants that make music. Through the use of other props, stories and object handling the group will discover more about the plants and animals that live in the rainforest and will finish with a short musical performance! Science, Geography, Music, Citizenship Maths and the EnvironmentAvailable weekdays only, at 10:40, 11:40 and 13:10. Sessions last one hour and can accommodate a maximum of 20 children at £40 per tour. Maths can be fun outside the classroom! Through looking at plants we will learn estimating, counting and fraction skills as well as looking at shape, symmetry and pattern. Science, Literacy, Numeracy Colour in the GardenAvailable weekdays only, at 10:40, 11:40 and 13:10. Sessions last one hour and can accommodate a maximum of 20 children at £40 per tour. This journey will take you outside in the Gardens to discover the colourful world of plants. Make a colour postcard to take home, explore plants at Kew and develop literacy and numeracy skills. Science, Art, Literacy, Numeracy FoodAvailable weekdays only, 50 minute tours at 10:40, 11:40 and 13:10. Maximum group size 20 pupils, £40 per tour On a journey of the Gardens discover where food comes from, how it is grown and how we can help plants grow well. Through the use of stories, puppets and hands on activity we will also find out about lifecycles of plants and animals Science, Literacy, Numeracy Shipwreck SurvivalAvailable weekdays only, 90 min workshop divided between the classroom and Palm House. Maximum group size 15 pupils, £60 per workshop. Could you survive on a tropical island?! Through the use of pictures, stories, tropical fruit tasting and hands on activities we will discover that all life depends on plants and that they provide us with food, shelter, clothing, medicine and much more. This classroom based activity will be followed by a tour of the Palm House where children can experience the rainforest environment. Science, Geography, Citizenship Puppet Shows: 'A Hungry Caterpillar' and 'The Frog Prince'Weekdays only, selected dates throughout the year. Performances can take a maximum of 30 children and last approximately 45 minutes, plus 60 minutes in Climbers and Creepers. £200 per performance. These joint performances use puppets to put a science twist on familiar stories. The content is linked to the early years goals and children will learn about the importance of plants and plant and animal lifecycles. Contact the education department for details. Science, Literacy, Numeracy, Art Rainforest ArtAvailable weekdays only, at 10:30, 11:40 and 13:10. Sessions last 90 minutes and can accommodate a maximum of 20 children at £60 per workshop. We will explore the rainforest habitat with your group looking at the shapes, sizes and uses of plants before coming back to our activity space and building our own rainforest in a range of art activities. Art, Science, Citizenship Climbers and CreepersSessions are free but must be booked in advance, can accommodate up to 30 children and last up to one hour. An introduction to the wonderful world of plants through exploratory play. Climbers and Creepers aims to introduce children (up to Year 3) to plants, and how plants and animals depend on each other. Children can explore themes such as pollination, animal homes and plants that provide food. Teachers are responsible for supervising their children at all times within the zone.
