PLEASE NOTE: this pack is currently out of stock.

The "Plants Across the Curriculum" teachers' pack provides a much-needed resource for teachers and students who wish to use plants and botanic gardens as a focus for curriculum development. A visit to the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew or to any of Britain's other botanic gardens or tropical collections opens up a world of opportunity for activities and allows students to discover how exciting and important plants and habitats are in our world today. The resource is intended to encourage schoolchildren to look closely at the plant kingdom and make the most of a visit to the botanic collection.

This teachers' pack has been produced by the Education section at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew with generous support from ESSO UK plc. It has been designed to combine work and pleasure for teachers of National Curriculum subjects working at Key Stages 2 and 3.

The pack provides information, pictorial resources, ideas, activities and worksheets, and by providing preparatory work in advance of a visit enables schools to make the best educational use of the landscapes, varied climate zones, buildings, exhibitions, and plants to be experienced on a visit to the Kew site at Richmond. Many of the materials are adaptable for use in conjunction with a visit to another botanic garden with tropical collections, such as Birmingham or Oxford, or other establishments with exceptional or unusual plant collections. The pack also provides follow-up work using the visit to the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew as inspiration.

The pack contains:

  • a teacher's handbook;

  • three A4 photo-packs;

  • a video presentation;

  • four A1 colour posters;

  • maps and plans;

  • eight subject wallets, which can be used independently or within a topic or a cross-curricular theme.

Some of the materials in other subject wallets link together, as indicated by a link symbol.
