School of Horticulture - Kew Diploma
Awards and prizes
There
is an extensive range of prizes available on a competitive basis to Kew
Diploma students throughout the three years of the course. In the first
year, a prize is available for the top student in plant physiology, as
well as another for the best student overall. In the second year, students
can apply for the Stella Ross-Craig and Ernest Thornton-Smith Travel Scholarships. These give
financial help towards the costs of three weeks' horticultural experience
outside of Kew either in the United Kingdom or abroad. In the final year,
the British Friends of Jerusalem Botanical Gardens sponsor a placement
in Jerusalem.
Prizes are given to the best overall student for the highest marks in
examinations, projects, and plant identification tests. There are also
prizes for contributions to the Kew
Mutual Improvement Society, which is a student lecture organisation,
and to the Students' Union.
Specialist awards are available for published articles, and for the best
practical student.
