Outdoors at Kew Gardens: field study skills.

Field study skillsDevelop the skills and confidence to design, carry out and evaluate fieldwork on and off school sites for key stage 3.

  • Field study techniques

  • Ethics

  • Trip planning and health and safety. 

  • Concepts about higher plants, ecology and conservation/environmental science

  • Exciting games and activities exploring biodiversity

  • Extension activities and follow up

  • Evaluation

Applicants can apply to the British Ecological Society before the course for a grant for teacher cover and partial course funding up to a total of £300. Please go to the BES website and find the section on 'Professional development in fieldwork'. Application forms need to arrive at the BES before the course has taken place and due to limited funds not all applications may be awarded.
