Orchids for Beginners

This one day course aims to give you the knowledge and confidence to be able to grow orchids successfully in your own home. Beginning with an introduction to the wonderful world of orchids, the tutor will then give advice as to the best kinds to grow and the steps involved in keeping them looking their best.

Growing Orchids From Seed

Wednesday 30 September
10.30am – 4.30pm

Tutor: Philip Seaton
Venue: Kew

This course aims to teach you to grow orchids from seed: confidently, successfully and professionally. You will first learn how to pollinate your orchid blooms and save the seed before finding out about the basic techniques of orchid seed sowing using equipment found in the average kitchen. At the end of the day you will be able to take your own flasks of seed away with you, and watch them grow on your windowsill.

The Asparagus to Zucchini of Vegetable Gardening - FULL

At a time when interest in vegetable growing is at a level that’s been unknown for decades we are delighted to offer a comprehensive one day course covering all the basics of vegetable gardening – and more! It will include all the essentials for growing under glass, pest control and everything you need to know to ensure that your plot is productive all year round. We will also be looking at a wide range of techniques that are essential for success from seed sowing to harvest for maximum yields and even how to hoe! The aim is to provide all the information that’s needed to ensure maximum output for minimal input from plot or pot plus advice on choosing the best varieties and new exotic vegetables so that you will always be growing produce to be proud of!

An Introduction to Herbs

The recent popularity of kitchen gardening has also revived an interest in herbs for their invaluable culinary connection. With this in mind our one day course offers all the practical advice you need to know to grow them successfully. From border design and cultivation in the ground and containers to propagation, planting and harvesting, it will reveal how best to combat pests and diseases and store the herbs that you have grown. The course also touches on the history of herbs and their medicinal use through the writings of the great herbals and analyses the exciting prospects for their future. Whether you are new to gardening or are experienced and would like to discover more about herbs, this is the perfect course for you!
