Botany for Beginners

Tutors: Staff of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew
Venue: Kew

This popular five day course is designed specifically for beginners and enthusiastic amateurs who want to learn about botany basics and their application within a working botanic garden.

A series of lectures, demonstrations and microscope practicals will give a comprehensive introduction to the world of plants. Topics include: divisions of the plant kingdom, basic classification, nomenclature and identification, cell functions, pollination, seed development, photosynthesis, respiration, environment, adaptation and the major vegetative zones of the world.

To illustrate practical application and relevance, exclusive ‘behind the scenes’ tours showcasing our scientific research and facilities will also be arranged including a trip to the Millennium Seed Bank at Wakehurst Place in Sussex.

Course Fee: £345 (£320 Concessions, Friends of Kew)
Deposit payable on enrolment: £50
