Vote now to help create a Grow Wild haven for UK native wild flowers

We are excited to announce the next stage of the Grow Wild campaign: your vote will help decide which lucky community in Scotland will be transformed into a wildlife haven.

Disappearing wildflower meadows

97% of the UK’s wildflower meadows have disappeared since the Second World War and, along with its flagship sites, Grow Wild is looking to showcase the UK’s beautiful native wild flowers and introduce wildness and colour back to unexpected places.

Grow Wild's flagship campaign in Scotland

Scotland is the first of our Grow Wild flagship site campaigns and we’ll be giving £100,000 to one of three projects, selected with the help of your vote. The choice is between a community garden on the site of former high-rise flats, a disused sewage works with the whiff of dereliction and a neglected community pond which wants its frogs back. There’s just one more week left to cast your vote, so go online, choose your favourite and vote by 3 November.

The three sites are:

  • Belville Community Garden, Greenock
  • Frog Pond, Dedridge, Livingston, West Lothian
  • The Water Works, Barrhead, East Renfrewshire

Find out more about the three shortlisted Scottish sites on www.vote.growwilduk.com.

The transformation of the lucky winner will be completed in May 2014.

Who can vote?

Anyone can vote who wants to see Grow Wild bring some wildness back into urban spaces and create a haven for UK native flowers and the birds, butterflies and bees they support. You could be inspired by the vision for one of the sites, have friends and family in Scotland or want to do your bit to make a community look and feel better with the help of Grow Wild, Kew and the Big Lottery Fund.

How do I vote?

It’s quick and easy. Visit the http://vote.growwilduk.com/ to check out the nominees, their plans and aspirations and see why they need your vote. The site is optimised for mobile phones so you can even vote while you’re out and about.

Then tell your family and friends about it via Facebook and Twitter and encourage them to make a difference by voting too. You can also sign up to receive the Grow Wild newsletter and be the first to find out which site has won.

It doesn’t stop there, the search for deserving sites to showcase Britain’s beautiful wild flowers and inspire people to sow wild flower seeds continues when we launch our search to find flagship sites in England in November. Over the next two years, Wales and Northern Ireland also join the party with two more flagship sites which will each win a £100,000 Grow Wild transformation. To keep up to date follow us on Twitter and Facebook.

Remember - the deadline to vote is midnight on Sunday 3 November 2013.
