We are inviting bands (adults or children) to perform 30 minute outdoor slots at the Gardens between 4.30pm and 8.30pm on selected nights during Christmas at Kew from 27 November 2013 until 4 January 2014.

There is no performance fee but Kew will pay £100 per act for travel expenses and provide complimentary drinks.

This week Collections Horticulturist, Carlos Magdalena, finalised the plants which will feature in the wreath this year. The collected sprigs and flowers are from specimens representing the UK Overseas Territories including: the Falkland Islands, Montserrat and St Helena, and are all grown on-site at Kew.

As well as the wreath which is laid at the Cenotaph, a second identical wreath is crafted and laid in Kew Gardens to commemorate the many members of the Kew Guild and staff who fell in the First and Second World Wars.

Due to severe weather Kew Gardens was closed on Monday 28 October and Tuesday 29 October. It is standard practice to close our sites in high winds as the safety of our visitors and staff is paramount.

Of approximately 14,000 trees at Kew, only 12 were lost, a dedicated team worked to clear fallen branches and debris around the site during the closure.

Wakehurst Place was open throughout the period. There were a small number of tree losses and other trees that lost branches, these were also cleared by the team.
