Repatriation of Herbarium Data
To make botanical research more effective, Kew is facilitating access to
the information contained in herbarium collections by repatriating data
and images on key plant families to key Brazilian institutions. The
present interactive database
aims to make this information more widely available.
The project aims to contribute to the conservation of global biodiversity
by assisting researchers in the accurate naming of their plant diversity,
while taking into consideration of the
Convention on Biological Diversity.
By databasing all material and repatriating data and images of
type-specimens to Northeastern Brazil, we are building capacity for
biodiversity research at local level. The work at the RBG Kew is
developed by Brazilian Repatriation Officers, who are using the
opportunity to visit Europe and develop their own specific taxonomic
research.
