Branch complement many; with subequal branches. Culm-sheaths tardily deciduous; 26–27 cm long; 1 times as long as wide; coriaceous; yellow; antrorsely scabrous; concave at apex; without auricles; setose on shoulders; shoulders with 5–10 mm long hairs. Culm-sheath ligule 1 mm high; ciliolate. Culm-sheath blade linear; reflexed; 14–18 cm long; 8–10 mm wide; pubescent (at base). Leaf-sheaths glabrous on surface. Leaf-sheath oral hairs ciliate; 3–5 mm long. Leaf-sheath auricles absent. Ligule an eciliate membrane; 1 mm long. Fertile spikelets sessile.

FERTILE SPIKELETS Spikelets comprising 1 fertile florets; with a barren rhachilla extension. Spikelets lanceolate; laterally compressed; 25 mm long; breaking up at maturity; disarticulating below each fertile floret.

GLUMES Glumes several; comprising 1–2 gemmiferous bracts; 1–2 empty glumes. Upper glume oblong; 5–6 mm long; 16–18 -veined. Upper glume margins ciliate. Upper glume mucronate.

FLORETS Fertile lemma lanceolate, or oblong; 20–22 mm long; chartaceous; without keel; 20–22 -veined. Lemma margins convolute; covering most of palea. Lemma apex acute; awned; 1 -awned.
