Poa raduliformis

HABIT Perennial. Culms erect; 35–90 cm long. Lateral branches lacking. Leaf-sheaths keeled; antrorsely scabrous; glabrous on surface. Ligule an eciliate membrane; 2–3.5 mm long; truncate. Leaf-blades flat, or conduplicate; 3–5 mm wide. Leaf-blade surface scaberulous; rough adaxially. Leaf-blade apex acuminate.

INFLORESCENCE Inflorescence a panicle.

Panicle open; oblong; 8–19 cm long. Primary panicle branches 3–5 -nate. Panicle branches scabrous.

Spikelets solitary. Fertile spikelets pedicelled.

FERTILE SPIKELETS Spikelets comprising 3–4 fertile florets; with diminished florets at the apex. Spikelets oblong; laterally compressed; 3.5–6 mm long; breaking up at maturity; disarticulating below each fertile floret. Rhachilla internodes smooth. Floret callus woolly.

GLUMES Glumes persistent; similar; shorter than spikelet. Lower glume lanceolate; 2–3 mm long; 0.75 length of upper glume; membranous; 1-keeled; 1 -veined. Lower glume primary vein scabrous. Lower glume lateral veins absent. Lower glume apex acute. Upper glume ovate; 2.5–3.5 mm long; 0.75 length of adjacent fertile lemma; membranous; 1-keeled; 3 -veined. Upper glume primary vein scabrous. Upper glume margins scabrous. Upper glume apex acute.

FLORETS Fertile lemma ovate; 3–4 mm long; membranous; keeled; 5 -veined. Lemma midvein ciliolate. Lemma lateral veins distinct. Lemma margins ciliolate. Lemma apex acute. Palea keels scabrous. Apical sterile florets resembling fertile though underdeveloped.

FLOWER Lodicules 2; membranous. Anthers 3; 0.8–1.8 mm long.

FRUIT Caryopsis with adherent pericarp. Hilum punctiform.

DISTRIBUTION Asia-temperate: Siberia, Soviet far east, China, and Mongolia.
