HABIT Perennial. Rhizomes short; pachymorph. Culms rambling (1), or scandent (1); 200–750–1500 cm long; woody. Culm-internodes terete. Culm-nodes swollen. Lateral branches dendroid. Branch complement many (1/1); with 1 branch dominant (1/1). Culm-sheaths deciduous. Culm-sheath blade triangular. Leaf-sheath auricles absent (1), or falcate (1). Ligule an eciliate membrane. Leaf-blade base with a brief petiole-like connection to sheath. Leaf-blades lanceolate (1), or oblong (1), or ovate (1). Leaf-blade midrib conspicuous.

DISTRIBUTION Tropical Asia.
