Floret callus elongated; pubescent; pungent.

GLUMES Glumes persistent; reaching apex of florets; thinner than fertile lemma; gaping. Lower glume lanceolate; 0.5 length of upper glume; membranous; without keels; 1 -veined. Lower glume lateral veins absent. Lower glume surface without pits. Lower glume apex acuminate. Upper glume lanceolate; membranous; without keels; 3 -veined. Upper glume apex acuminate.

FLORETS Basal sterile florets barren; without significant palea. Lemma of lower sterile floret elliptic; coriaceous; 7–9 -veined; awned. Fertile lemma elliptic; coriaceous; without keel; wingless; 7–9 -veined. Lemma surface unwrinkled; without grooves; pubescent. Lemma apex lobed; 3 -fid; incised 0.4 of lemma length; awned; 1 -awned.
