Limnas

HABIT Perennial. Rhizomes short. Culms erect; 15–33.33–60 cm long. Ligule an eciliate membrane.

INFLORESCENCE Inflorescence a panicle.

Panicle open (1), or contracted (2).

Spikelets solitary. Fertile spikelets pedicelled. Pedicels filiform (2/2).

FERTILE SPIKELETS Spikelets comprising 1 fertile florets; without rhachilla extension. Spikelets oblong; laterally compressed; 2.7–3.566–4.5 mm long; falling entire.

GLUMES Glumes reaching apex of florets; firmer than fertile lemma. Lower glume lanceolate (1), or oblong (2); 1 length of upper glume; chartaceous; 1-keeled; 3 -veined. Lower glume surface asperulous; without pits. Lower glume apex acute. Upper glume lanceolate (1), or oblong (2); 1 length of adjacent fertile lemma; chartaceous; 1-keeled; 3 -veined. Upper glume primary vein eciliate (2), or ciliolate (1). Upper glume surface asperulous. Upper glume apex acute.

FLORETS Fertile lemma ovate; membranous; keeled; wingless; 5 -veined. Lemma lateral veins obscure (1/1). Lemma surface smooth (1), or asperulous (2); unwrinkled; without grooves. Lemma apex acute; awned; 1 -awned. Principal lemma awn dorsal; geniculate. Palea 0.75–0.775–0.8 length of lemma; 1–2 -veined (2/2); 1-keeled (2), or 2-keeled.

FLOWER Lodicules 2 (2/2). Anthers 2. Ovary glabrous (2/2).

FRUIT Embryo 0.2–0.225–0.25 length of caryopsis.

DISTRIBUTION Temperate Asia.
