Lateral branches lacking (1/5), or sparse (1/5), or ample (4/5), or fastigiate (1/5). Leaf-sheath auricles absent, or erect (1). Ligule an eciliate membrane (8), or a ciliolate membrane (11), or a ciliate membrane (2). Leaf-blade base without a false petiole (14), or with a brief petiole-like connection to sheath (1). Leaf-blades persistent, or deciduous at the ligule (1); linear (8), or lanceolate (14), or elliptic (3), or oblong (1), or ovate (3).

INFLORESCENCE Inflorescence a panicle; exserted (14), or embraced at base by subtending leaf (1).

Panicle open. Primary panicle branches not whorled (14), or whorled at lower nodes (1).

Spikelets appressed (1/4), or spreading (3/4); solitary (13), or in pairs (2). Fertile spikelets pedicelled.

FERTILE SPIKELETS Spikelets comprising 1 basal sterile florets (14), or 2 basal sterile florets (1); 1 fertile florets; without rhachilla extension, or with a barren rhachilla extension (1). Spikelets elliptic (1), or orbicular (3), or obovate (12); dorsally compressed; 2.8–3.933–5.5 mm long; falling entire.

GLUMES Glumes shorter than spikelet (1), or reaching apex of florets (14); thinner than fertile lemma. Lower glume ovate (1), or oblate (14); not gibbous (13), or gibbous (2); membranous; without keels; 4 -veined (1), or 5–6 -veined (4), or 7 -veined (12), or 8 -veined (9), or 9 -veined (11), or 10–11 -veined (8), or 12–13 -veined (2). Lower glume surface without pits; glabrous (2), or woolly (13). Lower glume apex obtuse (13), or acute (2). Upper glume ovate (13), or orbicular (2); 1 length of adjacent fertile lemma; membranous (14), or cartilaginous (1); without keels; 7–8 -veined (4), or 9 -veined (14), or 10 -veined (12), or 11 -veined (13), or 12–13 -veined (6). Upper glume surface glabrous (2), or woolly (13). Upper glume apex obtuse.

FLORETS Basal sterile florets male (5), or barren (13); with palea (14), or without significant palea (1). Lemma of lower sterile floret ovate (14), or orbicular (1); membranous (14), or cartilaginous (1); 7–8 -veined (2), or 9 -veined (12), or 10 -veined (10), or 11 -veined (13), or 12–13 -veined (5); obtuse. Fertile lemma ovate (13), or orbicular (2); dorsally compressed; indurate; without keel; wingless. Lemma surface unwrinkled; without grooves (14), or with a median groove (1). Lemma margins involute. Lemma apex obtuse; with a shallow excavation, or woolly. Palea indurate.
