HABIT Perennial. Stolons present. Culms prostrate; 5–20 cm long; spongy; rooting from lower nodes. Ligule an eciliate membrane. Leaf-blades elliptic, or oblong, or ovate.

INFLORESCENCE Inflorescence a panicle.

Panicle open. Primary panicle branches whorled at lower nodes.

Spikelets solitary. Fertile spikelets pedicelled.

FERTILE SPIKELETS Spikelets comprising 1 fertile florets; without rhachilla extension. Spikelets lanceolate; laterally compressed; 6–7 mm long; falling entire. Floret callus elongated.

GLUMES Glumes both absent or obscure.

FLORETS Fertile lemma linear; chartaceous; keeled; wingless; 5 -veined. Lemma midvein ciliate. Lemma surface unwrinkled; without grooves. Lemma margins ciliate. Lemma apex acuminate; awned; 1 -awned. Palea 1 length of lemma; chartaceous; 3 -veined; 1-keeled. Palea keels ciliate.

FLOWER Lodicules 2. Anthers 6.

DISTRIBUTION Temperate Asia, or Tropical Asia.
