Dissochondrus

HABIT Perennial. Culms 60–120 cm long. Leaf-sheath auricles erect. Ligule an eciliate membrane. Leaf-blade base with a false petiole.

INFLORESCENCE Inflorescence a panicle.

Panicle spiciform. Primary panicle branches sterile at the tips.

Spikelets solitary. Fertile spikelets pedicelled. Pedicels oblong; tip cupuliform.

FERTILE SPIKELETS Spikelets comprising 2 fertile florets; without rhachilla extension. Spikelets ovate; dorsally compressed; 1.66–2.4 mm long; falling entire. Rhachilla internodes definite.

GLUMES Glumes reaching apex of florets; thinner than fertile lemma. Lower glume ovate; membranous; without keels; 3 -veined. Lower glume surface without pits; puberulous. Lower glume apex obtuse. Upper glume ovate; chartaceous; without keels; 9 -veined. Upper glume surface puberulous. Upper glume apex acute.

FLORETS Fertile lemma ovate; coriaceous; without keel; wingless. Lemma surface unwrinkled; without grooves. Lemma margins involute. Lemma apex acute. Palea coriaceous.

DISTRIBUTION Pacific.
