HABIT Annual. Culms erect; 10–75 cm long. Ligule a ciliolate membrane.
INFLORESCENCE Inflorescence composed of racemes.
Racemes digitate; unilateral. Rhachis narrowly winged; angular. Spikelet packing adaxial; 1 -rowed.
Spikelets solitary. Fertile spikelets sessile.
FERTILE SPIKELETS Spikelets comprising 1 basal sterile florets; 1 fertile florets; without rhachilla extension. Spikelets obovate; turbinate; dorsally compressed; 3.5–4 mm long; falling entire.
GLUMES Glumes one the lower absent or obscure; exceeding apex of florets; thinner than fertile lemma. Upper glume ovate; spurred; membranous; without keels; 3 -veined. Upper glume surface pubescent; with a transverse fringe of hair. Upper glume apex obtuse.
FLORETS Basal sterile florets barren; without significant palea. Lemma of lower sterile floret elliptic; membranous; 3 -veined; obtuse. Fertile lemma obovate; indurate; wingless. Lemma surface unwrinkled; without grooves. Lemma margins involute. Lemma apex obtuse; pubescent. Palea indurate.
