CITES
The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species, better known as CITES, was established over 30 years ago. Now administered by the United Nations Environment Programme, CITES controls and monitors some 30,000 plants and animals threatened, or potentially threatened, by international trade. The Convention has been signed by over 160 countries and protects listed plants and animals, from elephants to orchids, from unsustainable exploitation in the wild due to international trade.
