Working with Rio Tinto’s other biodiversity partners, Birdlife, Earthwatch and Fauna and Flora International, Kew provides technical advice to Rio Tinto as it seeks to implement the company’s Biodiversity Strategy. |

Kew participates in working groups, with the other biodiversity partners, addressing complex issues such as biodiversity indicators and offsets, with the aim of integrating biodiversity into business planning. |

Kew and the other biodiversity partners sit on a number of biodiversity advisory groups around the world e.g. Madagascar, Brazil and Guinea providing technical advice on biodiversity issues relevant at the business unit level. |
Undertaking an early situation analysis of Rio Tinto exploration sites, or projects in early stages of development, can have a number of advantages for both the company and Kew. Visiting the concession area, meeting local stakeholders and making preliminary species collections can identify opportunities for engagement and highlight serious biodiversity issues that need to be addressed before mine development progresses. Kew can also provide Rio Tinto with links to our in-country partners and work with them to build their capacity to engage with Rio Tinto and other companies in the future. |
