Coates Wood

Coates Wood is home to the superb National Collection of Southern Beech or Nothofagus, from South America and Australasia.  Trees from Argentina, Chile and Patagonia represent a temperate rainforest from the Southern Hemisphere.  They are protected by a shelter belt of UK native oaks and ash.   Species include Chilean Firebush Embothrium coccineumi, Roble Beech Nothofagus oblique, and Antarctic Beech, Nothofagus Antarctica.
