Snakeshead Fritillary

Fritillaria meleagris is a native perennial found in meadows in southern and eastern England and flowers during April and early May.  It has large bell-like pendant flowers that are curiously chequered and veined in shades of purple and white, held singly or in pairs on slender stems.

At Kew 100,000 bulbs are planted in a naturalised woodland setting on Riverside Walk, and a further 215,000 bulbs provide a stunning display on Princess Walk.
