Library, Art & Archives

Kew's extensive library is one of the most important botanical reference sources in the world. Library, Art & Archives contains more than half a million items, including books, botanical illustrations, photographs, letters and manuscripts, periodicals, biographies and maps. During the 150 years of the library's history, material has been acquired by gift, purchase and exchange. Over 90 languages are represented, making the library a global resource for plant science, research and conservation.

Please note that the Library, Art & Archives will be closed from Monday 1 to Friday 5 September inclusive. We will not be able to accept visitors or deal with enquiries during this time. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Further information for visitors to the Archives during September 2008

Due to staff absences during September, there will be reduced access to the Archives then. So that the staff can plan ahead, if you are considering making an appointment to visit during September, please could you contact the Archives by the end of Friday 5 September. Any requests made after this date will be deferred until 25 September. We apologise for any inconvenience this will cause and ask for your understanding. Thank you.

Please also note that the electronic library catalogue will be unavailable from Monday 1 to Thursday 4 September 2008 inclusive due to essential maintenance work. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. You may find it helpful to know that Kew's library catalogue can be searched via the Copac Union Catalogue.
