James Sykes Gamble (1847-1925) - James Gamble worked in the Indian Forest Department from 1871 and took positions as Conservator of Forests and Director of the Imperial Forest School among others. He wrote ‘A Manual of India Timbers’ (1881) and Flora of the Presidency of Madras’ (1915-1936).
