Campanile

This building was designed by Decimus Burton to be the boiler chimney for the Palm House, 100m away. A tunnel linking the two buildings contained a railway track that carried coal for the boilers beneath the Palm House. The tunnel was abandoned when the furnaces flooded.

The Campanile is built in the Italianate Romanesque style of stock brick with red brick dressings. Its square tower has three slim round-headed recessions on each side, surmounted by an octagonal stage with round-headed openings.

The Campanile is number 7 on the visitor map.
