'Play in a Day'

An exciting creative engagement opportunity for local young people, based on an original interpretation of the Marianne North story,'Play in a Day' was a Community Outreach project developed and delivered in October 2010 in cooperation with one of our community partners, Feltham Arts Association.

Young people from Feltham Arts prepared a drama and dance performance inspired by the story of Marianne North in the morning of Saturday 30 October 2010, and performed it that afternoon in Kew's Temperate House.

All the costumes, props and dance routines were devised and created at Kew on the day. The project aimed to challenge and develop young people’s skills and abilities - as well as everyone’s timekeeping and organisational skills.

An audience of parents, friends and day visitors was transported into the world of Marianne’s paintings, where colours danced and butterflies talked...

The 'Play in a Day' project was part of Kew's Community Outreach & Engagement programme, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
