Seed Bank laboratory

Plant Information Centre

Find out how you can harness Kew's expert knowledge for your business.

Over 250 years Kew has developed substantial global plant information, second to none in the world. Our collections include over 7 million plant specimens in Kew Herbarium, used as a baseline for accurate scientific identification of the worlds plants, and over 1 billion seeds in Kew’s Millennium Seed Bank that has amassed an understanding of the storage, longevity, health and germination principles of all of those seeds stored within its vaults.

As well as this we have the largest plant DNA bank and the largest mycological collection in the world, and the largest collection of living plants. We also hold major databased information on plant taxonomic information and the uses of plants.

We are committed to making this information available and useful to all. As well as our online databases, we are also able to process this information for your organisation's needs, aiding the scientifically accurate and innovative understanding and use of plants.

Recent projects include:

Boots  |  Metropolitan Police  |  Proctor and Gamble  |  UK Revenue & Customs
