Consultation Responses

5 November 2010

Response from the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs ‘Invitation to shape the Nature of England’ discussion document.

In July 2010, the Environment Secretary Caroline Spelman signalled a new approach to environment policy, calling for everyone, from birdwatchers to big business, to shape the government’s Natural Environment White Paper. The White Paper will be Defra’s first environmental White Paper in 20 years. RBG Kew has submitted a response to the discussion document setting out our answers to the questions raised.

Kew's Director, Professor Stephen Hopper, said “Kew is very supportive of Defra’s intention to address the role of biodiversity and the delivery of ecosystem services in England, and welcomes the idea that natural capital needs to be factored into both business and development planning decisions”.

Enquires should be forwarded to Sue Glover, Policy and Research Officer, Directorate. Email: s.glover@kew.org
