The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (RBG Kew) is a world famous scientific organisation, internationally respected for its outstanding living collection of plants and Herbarium as well as its scientific expertise in plant diversity, conservation and sustainable development in the UK and around the world. It is also a major international visitor attraction, attracting nearly 2 million visitors a year, and one of the largest organisations of its type in the world. Kew Gardens was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003 and celebrated its 250th anniversary in 2009.

In this role you will provide comprehensive support to the Great Glasshouses Team assisting with the day to day operations of the Tropical Nursery and care of the botanical collections. You will support the team leader with the propagation for all the display houses, including the temperate house.

Working in a team of Kew staff, students, trainees and volunteers, including interns and work experience students, you will support the team leader in leading, managing and training the team and handling their performance management. You will ensure collections are maintained to a high standard and horticultural maintenance and cultivation techniques are carried out as required. You will assist with the daily running of the Temperate unit, including monitoring environmental control systems, pests and diseases, reporting of faults and problem solving.

You will have proven experience in working in horticulture, caring for a range of plants with practical experience of working in a nursery. You will have experience of coaching staff and/or demonstrating horticulture techniques with good verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
