JOB DETAILS:

The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (Kew) is the world-leader in plant diversity science, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a major visitor attraction that shows the importance of plants in all our lives. Kew’s mission is to inspire and deliver science-based plant conservation worldwide, enhancing the quality of life.

The Digital Collections Unit is responsible for the creation and curation of data and digital images representing Kew’s world class collections of plant and fungal specimens, making these data widely accessible to researchers and the general public via portals including Kew’s online Herbarium Catalogue, JSTOR Plant Science, GBIF and Europeana. 
We have an opportunity to join this team where the postholder will be responsible for the digitisation of herbarium specimens, capture of associated data and high resolution imaging of specimens in accordance with Kew’s standards.  The postholder will be flexibly deployed across various projects including the  Global Plants initiative working to digitise Kew’s type specimens and on Reflora, focussing on Kew’s Brazilian collections. 
The postholder will have a relevant degree or equivalent experience, can demonstrate experience of working with MS Office software, including fast, accurate typing/data capture skills, and have experience of database use and imaging.  Some experience of managing a specimen collection is also required.  Excellent all round communication skills and personal organisation skills are required alongside excellent attention to detail.
